About ZeDES
Chung-Ang University's DAAD-Center for German and European Studies
(Zentrum für Deutschland- und Europastudien, ZeDES)
We started out as the Korean German Culture Research Institute in 2001 and further developed into the DAAD-Center for German and European Studies in April 2013. Our center is the third center in Asia to be supported by the world's largest international academic institution, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), following the opening of centers at Tokyo University in Japan and Peking University in China. The Center now has built the foundation to become a global institution in fields such as education, research and cultural exchange involving Germany and Europe. We strive to foster experts in German and European studies, accomplish academic research and strengthen the network between Northeast Asia and Germany/Europe. The following explains the purposes of education, research and exchange in each area.
Research: Become the Center of German and European Research in Korea
DAAD-Center for German and European Studies conducts high-quality research with outstanding scholars in various fields, as well as cooperate with scholars abroad on German and European Studies topics. We are also a pivot point of Northeast Asia region’s German and European Studies, which strengthens research cooperation network of Korea, China and Japan.
Education: Become an Education Center that Fosters German/European Experts
The master’s program was first established in March 2014, followed by the doctoral program in March 2016. The master’s and doctoral programs in German and European Studies are run by a new model that integrates both Humanities and Social Sciences. This will allow to foster German/European experts with broad perspectives and expert knowledge.
Exchange: DAAD-Center for German and European Studies will become the center of exchange
We will accumulate knowledge in the areas of politics, economics, society, culture and arts related to Germany and Europe to serve the role of expanding such knowledge globally. Moreover, we will contribute to establish peace in the Northeast Asian region by strengthening networks between Germany/Europe research centers, institutions and scholars.
